I'm a local Scout Leader and went in there for some prizes for a Cooking Competition. The lady who initially served me was very friendly and helpful. However, I asked for a discount due to the fact that I was buying for the Scouts. She rang the owner of the shop and the manager came on to the shop floor and advised me that I could only have a discount with cash but as I wanted to pay by card there would be no discount. I tried to point out to him that I can get a 10% discount with Millets but I had gone to Gwent Camping to keep it local. After another discussion, he then duly went away and came back and said he would give me a 5% discount. Due to the fact that it was my lunchtime and I didn't have any more time to go to Millets, I took the 5% discount. I have shopped there a number of times before but this was my last time.
Having used this shop several times over the last few years I was horrified by the service that I have recently received. Whilst they have an adequte amount of stock, they are not that competitively priced but probably survive on the lack of competition around - it really isn't for their customer service thats for sure! Having spent around £100 a few days ago I returned a product a day later for a refund (having been advised by the cashier that this would be fine). When I did return the item the management would only exchange - contrary to what I was originally led to believe at the time of purchase. Exchanges only were allowed according to a sign placed on one of the counters (but not at the counter that I was served at) - so I purchased an item with a verbal agreement of return by the cashier only to be refused this when returning it! Whilst they are within their legal rights the management were not budging on this - they became rude and offensive, refusing to discuss it any further. I just can't believe that this company haa survived - what a terrible attitude to have! I and my family will never shop here again. Courtesy doesn't cost anything and when I am a paying customer I expect a certain degree of respect and customer service. Had a sign been displayed at the counter I was served at, and had I not been ill advised at the point of purchase, i would not have an issue. I would prefer to order online and pay postage than have to step foot in this shop again. I try to support local businesses but they definately over stepped the mark and I an hopeful that nobody else would have to put up with such inadequate, rude and unprofessional service.
